Blasts From the Past


 Every year during the Summer term the rowing races known collectively as Eights Week take place on the Thames (known as the Isis at this point in Oxford). So, despite never having set foot in such a contraption myself, it would be wrong of me to dismiss this from my collection. So here is a Hertford College eight splashing about in May 1981, shot on Ilford HP5. Below is the scan of the original negative...

To London and Tate Britain yesterday for the Don McCullin exhibition. But first a stroll through Borough Market on our way from London Bridge station, taking in a coffee stop. Thence through Blackfriars and over Lambeth Bridge to the gallery. I thoroughly recommend the exhibition - dozens of amazing, thought-provoking and at times harrowing black and white prints, simply yet beautifully presented with concise but informative contextual notes. It was gratifying to learn of a shared beginning in photography - a Rolleicord and no exposure meter. There though I fear any similarity ends. Borough Market Bakery.
