Anne, Christmas 1991  Blasts From the Past  Here is my sister, Anne, again (see Blast From the Past No. 2 ) - this time though it's Christmas 1991. Don McCullin

Image
To London and Tate Britain yesterday for the Don McCullin exhibition. But first a stroll through Borough Market on our way from London Bridge station, taking in a coffee stop. Thence through Blackfriars and over Lambeth Bridge to the gallery. I thoroughly recommend the exhibition - dozens of amazing, thought-provoking and at times harrowing black and white prints, simply yet beautifully presented with concise but informative contextual notes. It was gratifying to learn of a shared beginning in photography - a Rolleicord and no exposure meter. There though I fear any similarity ends. Borough Market Bakery. Costa Cortado.   Blackfriars Circus. Tate Britain. The domed ceiling at Tate Britain. Detail from the main staircase at Tate Britain. Don McCullin's "Sheep going to the Slaughter, Early Morning, Near the Caledonian Road, London 1965". And finally, a souvenir.
